Continuing education (CE) is education that helps fulfill the knowledge required to maintain a standard of professional competence and remain current with an ever-changing industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In accordance with Council Rule<\/strong> 7(5)<\/strong>, licensees must meet the requirements of the continuing education (CE) program established by Council. CE supports licensees in meeting the competency standards set out in Section 5.2 of the Insurance Council\u2019s Code of Conduct<\/strong>, which requires licensees to conduct all insurance activities in a competent manner and remain current in their skills and knowledge. Under Council Rule 4(4)<\/strong>, all licensees must submit an annual confirmation to Council that they have met the Insurance Council\u2019s CE requirements, and licensees who have not met these requirements are prohibited from renewing their licence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Separate Continuing Education Requirements and Guidelines are provided for each licence class, outlining the CE requirements licensees must meet for the licence period which runs June 1 – May 31. Only eligible education as outlined in the CE Requirements and Guidelines is eligible to be claimed as CE credit. Licensees are required to maintain CE records for five (5) Licence Periods, including records for any carryover credits that were used within the past five licence periods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Effective June 1, 2025, The Insurance Council of BC updated its Continuing Education Program for BC general insurance agents and salespersons, adjusters, life and sickness insurance agent licensees.

Annual CE Credit Require\u200bments – per Licence Period (June 1 – May 31)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Licensees must complete the following minimum number of CE credits each licence period which runs June 1 \u2013 May 31.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exception to this is Travel Agency Employees\/Salespersons who must complete their CE credits based on the calendar year (January-December).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CE Self-Tracker<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

The CE Self-Tracker is an optional tool designed to help licensees keep track of their CE credits within the Insurance Council\u2019s online portal. While the CE Self-Tracker can support with planning, calculating and recording completed CE, it does not satisfy a licensee\u2019s record keeping requirements and does not allow for uploading of CE certificates.
