This article outlines key CE information, recent CE program updates and provides resources to support you in meeting your requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why CE matters<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>CE&nbsp;supports licensees in maintaining professional competence by keeping their knowledge and skills current as insurance products, industry practices, regulatory expectations and risks evolve. CE helps licensees adapt to an ever-changing industry and supports them in providing informed, competent and professional service to clients. CE is a core requirement for ongoing licensure.<br><br>All licensees are required to complete their CE requirements by May 31 every year. Completing CE throughout the licence year and well in advance of the deadline helps avoid last minute issues, allows you to stay up to date with industry changes, supports you in effectively serving clients and ensures you are prepared to renew your licence.<br><br>Detailed CE requirements for all licence classes, including the requirements for new licensees and non-BC resident licensees, are available on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancecouncilofbc.com\/continuing-education\/ce-guidelines\/\">Continuing Education Requirements<\/a>&nbsp;page of the Insurance Council website. The Insurance Council\u2019s CE Program was updated on June 1, 2025 and these updated requirements apply to the current licence period which ends May 31, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CE Program updated June 1, 2025<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Effective June 1, 2025, the Insurance Council updated its CE program for BC adjusters and general, life and accident &amp; sickness insurance licensees. The updated&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancecouncilofbc.com\/continuing-education\/ce-guidelines\/\">Continuing Education Requirements and Guidelines<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>expand and clarify CE credit eligibility criteria,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>introduce new technical content categories, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>provide additional explanations and guidance to support licensees in understanding and meeting their CE obligations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There has been no change to the minimum number of CE credits required annually after the first licence period, nor are there changes for&nbsp;the CE requirements for travel agency salespersons and representatives and&nbsp;motor vehicle dealers&#8217; licensed representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CE and annual licence renewal: What you need to know<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The annual deadline for licensees to complete CE is May 31<sup>st<\/sup>. However, licensees must have met their CE requirements&nbsp;<em>before<\/em>&nbsp;they can renew their licence.<br><br>CE completion is a prerequisite for licence renewal. While annual licence renewal opens on April 1,&nbsp;licensees are only eligible to renew their licence after they have met their CE and errors and omissions (E&amp;O) insurance requirements.&nbsp;As part of annual licence renewal, licensees must submit a declaration attesting they have met their CE requirements, and they must do so before proceeding with their annual licence renewal. Licensees who have not met their CE requirements or who do not have the required E&amp;O insurance are prohibited from renewing their licence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CE resources to support you<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The Insurance Council offers a range of tools and resources to help licensees plan for their CE requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Learn more about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancecouncilofbc.com\/continuing-education\/ce-guidelines\/\">Continuing Education Requirements and Guidelines<\/a>\u00a0on our website.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>See\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancecouncilofbc.com\/licensee-resources\/continuing-education\/q-and-a\/\">Q&amp;As<\/a>\u00a0on CE, including record-keeping, course eligibility and how to calculate CE credits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Find the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancecouncilofbc.com\/continuing-education\/accreditation\/\">list of accredited course providers<\/a>\u00a0and accredited individual courses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Register for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancecouncilofbc.com\/continuing-education\/courses\/\">Insurance Council courses<\/a>\u00a0that you have not already taken.
